Christianity and Postmodernism

In 2003, I would often discuss issues of faith and philosophy with a friend named Jarys. During that time, I was studying at Fuller Theological Seminary and was taking a class with Richard Mouw called Christian Worldview and Contemporary Challenges. As part of that class, I wrote a letter to Jarys (attached). Over the years, I have shared this letter with many others as a way to facilitate discussions about Christianity and other worldviews.

Since 2003, I’ve edited it a bit for clarity and grammar. Together we have seen some of implications of a large portions of society operating with Postmodern sensibilities. I don’t think it is a stretch to attribute to Postmodernism some of the increases in political polarization, societal mistrust, and disregard for truth.

I invite you to read the letter (it is short) and reflect on your own worldview.

Note: This post is part of a series where I am reviewing and resharing my writing from years past.
